EN 50600 – Design
The data centre standard explained
EN 50600 is a series of standards, not a single standard. The parts of the standard that deal with structural and technical design are grouped together in the ‘Design’ sub-series (EN 50600-2-x).

Overview
The seminar focuses in a concise manner on explaining the key design principles for the availability classes defined in the data centre standard, levels of granularity for energy efficiency and for the achievable security levels in the areas of physical and environmental security.

Target audience
Data centre operators, data centre and data centre basic infrastructure planners, (C)ISO, security planners, planners and consultants specialising in the technical resilience of facilities
Scope
This training course does not teach the skills required to draw up a proper technical plan or to construct and maintain data centre sites and their underlying infrastructure.
Certificate
Following the 2-day seminar, you will receive a certificate of attendance.
Prerequisite
The training course does not provide basic knowledge of building construction or building services engineering (TGA), but builds upon these foundational skills in line with the EN 50600. Seminar participants should therefore already possess the basic knowledge mentioned.
Ideally, participants should bring the relevant parts of the EN 50600 standard with them to the training session as reference material, so that they can consult the content covered in the condensed course. For licensing reasons, the standards cannot be provided by CIS. However, the standards can be obtained by seminar participants as nationalised OVE EN standards via the Austrian Standards webshop (see www.austrian-standards.at).

- Trends in the further development of EN 50600
In addition to the content of the current editions of EN 50600, the seminar aims to familiarise participants with the trends currently foreseeable in the further development of the standard.
- EN 50600 and EU Regulations
The EN 50600 series of standards is referenced in a number of EU regulations and may, amongst other things, be regarded as the required state of the art in the context of NIS-2 / NISG 2026, specifically for the ‘data centre service providers’ sub-sector, be regarded as the required state of the art. This will be addressed during the training.
Speaker
Peter Wörgötter, MSc. is a self-employed management consultant specialising in management systems. His career path leading up to self-employment began at Siemens Austria in what was then the Building Technologies division, initially in commissioning and subsequently in project management and implementation planning for plant engineering projects in buildings (with a focus on security technology), and then took him further within Siemens to IT Solutions and Services, where he worked in the Service Management Consulting / Security Consulting division. Following the spin-off at Siemens, he was regional process lead for Business Continuity Management in the CEE region at Atos IT Solutions and Services, as well as an internal auditor.
As a network partner of CIS (and also Quality Austria), alongside his role as lead auditor for the standards EN 50600, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 22301, ISO 20000 and the Austrian Environmental Label UZ 80, he is also a product expert for CIS’s audit and training products in the ‘data centres’ segment, where he drives further development. To this end, he is also an active member of the relevant European standards committee at CENELEC, as well as at the national level with OVE.
