Introduction to ISO 27001 and NIS-2: Fundamentals of Information Security
Upon completion of this three-day course, you will be familiar with the processes and standard requirements for implementing ISO 27001 and ISO 27002 and will be able to apply them in practice.
The course covers the fundamentals of information security as well as overarching aspects such as organisation, technology and process management. Case studies are used to guide participants towards independently applying what they have learnt. Furthermore, the standard is compared with other approaches to information security, and potential future developments of the standard itself or the series of standards are discussed.
This course also covers the key principles of NIS-2 and provides practical guidance on how organisations can implement the requirements efficiently and sustainably. The focus is on the core measures of NIS-2, ENISA’s risk management approach and the key obligations for ‘essential’ and ‘important’ operators.
Who is ENISA? The ENISA (European Union Agency for Cybersecurity) is the central EU agency that supports Member States and businesses in tackling cyber threats. In the context of the NIS 2 Directive, ENISA plays a key role: it develops technical guidelines, promotes intergovernmental cooperation and provides risk analyses and recommendations on the implementation of the new security requirements.

Speaker
Mag. Manfred Spanner, MSc. is Head of the Group Data Protection Office at OMV Aktiengesellschaft and, in his role as Data Protection Officer, is responsible, amongst other things, for ensuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation. Prior to this, he served as Group Chief Information Security Officer (Group CISO) for the ÖBB Group, where he was responsible for information security; in this role, he successfully implemented the information security strategy and, in light of the introduction of the NIS Act, organised and carried out the initial preparations. In addition, he lectures at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, amongst other institutions, is the author of several specialist books and holds multiple certifications (CISA, CISM, CRISC, ISO 27001, etc.).
