CISO of the Year: Your personal career booster

Celebrating achievements in information security

Marcel Lehner, CISO at the MM Group, took home the title of “CISO of the Year” in 2023 – thanks in part to the introduction of an ISMS and the associated reduction in security incidents by 25% and a 50% reduction in risk detection time.

In addition to recognising and appreciating the work of this often underestimated professional group, the competition also allows companies to showcase their own information security practices and reflect on them on a prestigious platform. Lehner also sees the following benefits: “The competition is a valuable stepping stone, as it not only offers recognition, but also a platform to present your own skills and achievements to a broad audience of industry experts. Participation and eventual recognition can significantly boost a CISO’s career while providing access to a network of professionals, which is invaluable for career progression.”

Tip: join in & benefit either way

“My advice to future applicants is to focus on showcasing projects that provide both innovative and practical solutions to information security challenges. It’s critical to show how your work directly contributes to strengthening your organisation’s cybersecurity while creating clear business value. You should ensure that you highlight examples of teamwork, leadership and strategic thinking.”

Who is the best CISO (Chief Information Security Officer) in the whole country?

CIS – Certification & Information Security Services GmbH has been revealing this answer every year since 2022 as part of the “CISO of the Year” competition. The competition is the only one of its kind in Austria and recognises, for example, the implementation of successful and innovative security projects, the realisation of information security management systems (ISMS) under challenging conditions or the special integration of different management systems. The best projects are presented and honoured in a keynote statement at the CIS Compliance Summit – the specialist conference in the field of security.
