Austrian Ecolabel “Data Centers UZ 80” Certification
Award for climate-friendly data centers
Environmental and climate protection plays an important role in view of the acute climate threat. The Austrian Ecolabel was created in 1990 to provide environmentally relevant guidance when purchasing products and services. Today, it is Austria’s most important environmental seal of approval, which is awarded in five categories by the Republic of Austria, represented by the Federal Ministry (für Land- und Forstwirtschaft, Klima- und Umweltschutz, Regionen und Wasserwirtschaft – BMLUK), after a thorough examination of the fulfilment of the criteria for four years.
The Austrian Ecolabel can be awarded to climate-friendly data centres,
- whose technical building equipment (TGA) is operated in a particularly energy-efficient and resource-saving manner,
- that develop and successfully implement a long-term strategy to increase energy and resource efficiency for the data centre,
- that enable their customers to implement measures to increase energy efficiency
- and who create the conditions for IT operators to operate information technology in an energy-efficient manner through guaranteed minimum standards and transparent reporting.
Proof of implementation
As proof of the implementation of the criteria specified in the guideline “Data centres UZ 80” (PDF), an overall report from a qualified independent inspection body must be submitted. CIS is an inspection body authorised by the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection. Approved CIS auditors for the preparation of “Data centres UZ 80” reports are therefore also listed on the Austrian Ecolabel website.
