Security measures for energy suppliers
ISO 27019 provides energy suppliers with an internationally recognised standard for the further development of corporate security measures to protect energy supply systems.
The standard builds on ISO 27001 and ISO 27002 and can therefore be easily integrated into a new or existing information security management system (ISMS) in accordance with ISO 27001. Concretisations and extensions of ISO 27002, taking into account the risk-oriented approach of ISO 27001, enable the targeted further development of existing security measures to protect energy supply systems in the company.
Certification in accordance with ISO 27019 is possible in conjunction with certification or existing certification in accordance with 27001. Auditors with extensive experience in the energy sector can provide valuableinput on compliance with the standard and therefore on the further development of security measures.
Update for the Energy Industry
ISO/IEC 27019 specifies requirements for information security management in process control of energy supply. The new version was released in October 2024 and replaces the previous version from 2017.
What this means for existing certificates
Organizations with a valid certificate according to ISO/IEC 27019:2017 must transition to the new version by October 2029 at the latest. The transition to the new version is straightforward: it can be carried out as part of a regular re-certification, surveillance, or standalone transition audit.
- Additional audit time: 4 hours if the transition audit is conducted as part of re-certification; 8 hours for a surveillance or standalone transition audit.
- Certification cycle: The existing cycle remains fully intact – no restart, no loss of audit steps already completed.
